How to Play Pickleball

Pickleball is a fast-paced sport that's a combination of ping-pong, badminton, and tennis. You can play pickleball with paddles and plastic balls, in a singles or doubles format. Leagues and tournaments typically have men's, women's, and a mixed-doubles categories of play.

Court

It's played on a rectangular court that's 44 feet by 20 feet and divided into two sides by a low net.

Scoring

The game begins with a serve that's hit underhand and diagonally crosscourt from behind the baseline into the opposing team's service court. The serve must clear the kitchen, which is the non-volley zone on either side of the court.

Equipment

To prevent common injuries, it’s crucial to choose appropriate footwear. Players should opt for court shoes instead of running or training shoes.

Pickleball Paddles

The thickness of your paddle is a sliding scale of power and control. Thinner paddles offer more pop and power, and are typically lighter than their thicker counterparts, which helps with paddle agility.
